My artistic background deeply influences the way I conceptualise my films. I began my creative journey with a strong foundation in fine art, earning a D2 (A**) in A-Level Fine Art. In 2021, I pursued an Art Foundation at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (UAL), where I truly discovered my passion for cameras during the photography and moving image segments of the course. This passion led me to further my studies in film at the University of Kent in 2022.
As an undergraduate, I've explored both the theoretical and practical dimensions of filmmaking, studying film style, history, and theory, while also honing essential skills like screenwriting. My approach to film is deeply influenced by my artistic sensibilities, with a strong focus on cinematography and the aesthetic aspects of visual storytelling. I take great care in crafting each frame, using light, shadows, and colour to convey emotions and narratives that words alone cannot express.
In 2022, I had the incredible opportunity to shadow Rina Yang during the Woolmark Prize shoot. This experience provided invaluable insights into industry standards and professional conduct on set, which I now integrate into my own filmmaking process. My work is heavily inspired by artists like Carrie Mae Weems, Khalik Allah, Marcell Rév, and Zanele Muholi, whose powerful visual storytelling continues to shape my approach to film.
As a young black British woman, I am driven by the desire to tell stories that reflect my identity and experiences. It’s important for me to create narratives featuring women who look like me, made by me. My ultimate goal is to make a meaningful impact in the film industry, inspiring young girls who share my background to see themselves represented and realise that they too can achieve their dreams in film.
